Custom clothier takes Cobb by its seams

A taste of sophisticated style recently arrived in East Cobb County’s Johnson Ferry Road corridor. FJ Lancaster, a new custom clothing boutique, caters to men and women who crave a perfect fit and impeccable detailing in their wardrobes at prices comparable to higher-end department stores like Nordstrom.

“The fit is perfect for your body, so you feel amazing in the clothing,” said store manager Jennifer Lancaster. “What makes the clothes fabulous is the presence.”

Co-owner Jesse Lancaster has worked in custom clothing for 23 years, making personal appointments at clients’ homes and offices. But Lancaster wanted to create a family business and add a permanent store front to his already well-respected business. His sister, Jennifer, added her personal shopping skills to the equation and long-time friend, and now business partner, Fitz Johnson also joined Jesse. The new FJ Lancaster began to take shape.

“We work with our clients to build their looks,” Jennifer said. “It’s our job to make sure every client is appropriately attired from the most casual to the most formal occasions.”

To accomplish that goal, Jesse suggested beginning with cornerstone pieces and building on them. “We recommend building from dark to light and focusing on more timeless pieces,” he said. “You really build a wardrobe using foundation pieces.”

The entire team at FJ Lancaster subscribes to this wardrobe building philosophy, including Fitz’s daughter and summer intern Whitney. The quartet of custom clothiers does truly understand what it is that men and women want — besides looking their absolute best. “A lot of men hate to shop,” Jesse said.
“We understand that, so once we get a pattern and measurements, the process can be as simple as a phone call.”

Women, according to Fitz, prefer unique, individualized looks, which is exactly what they get at FJ Lancaster. “A woman wants to feel secure knowing there’s not going to be another woman in her dress,” Fitz said. To that end, the team won’t sell an identical look or fabric within the same office.

Even with the tastefully appointed new storefront, the personalized experience customers expected in Jesse’s home visit days still pervades at FJ Lancaster. The team keeps extensive customer notes, including wardrobe cards detailing apparel choices complete with fabric swatches. And they still make those home visits from time to time to have consultations, take measurements and deliver completed pieces.

“We will always meet or exceed our client’s expectations,” Jesse said. Just like in the old days.
